As the country faces a surge in Covid-19 cases, India additionally has to deal with natural disasters. An earthquake whose magnitude was measured at 6 by the American Institute of Geophysics (USGS) shook the state of Assam in northeastern India on Wednesday morning. There is no immediate victim.
The tremor occurred at a relatively shallow depth of 29 km at 7:51 a.m., the USGS said. The epicenter was north of Dhekiajuli, in the north of the state of Assam not far from the border with Bhutan.
Residents of the state capital Guwahati, 150 km to the south, said the earthquake had moved buildings and created cracks in the walls. They also reported several aftershocks.
