The regulated gas prices applied by Engie will increase by 5.7% on average on March 1, under the cumulative effect of a rise in prices caused by a cold snap this winter in Asia and an increased use of stocks. Europeans in January, the regulator announced on Friday.

According to CRE, this price increase is explained by an increase in “market prices”, “supported this winter by strong global demand (…) due to the cold snap on the Asian continent”. “To this factor is added a strong demand on storage in Europe in January as well as the continued increase in oil prices”, added the regulator.

The law provides for the gradual extinction by 2023 of regulated gas sales tariffs (TRV) for individuals. They have already been removed for professional consumers since December 1. Since January 1, 2019, regulated tariffs have fallen by 9.2% in all, and their level remains lower than that of 2015, underlines CRE.
