The Alimentaria show at Fira de Barcelona is postponed again until April 2022 due to the coronavirus crisis

Automobile Barcelona, to be held next July, will be the first major event for the automotive sector in Europe since the start of the pandemic

Fira de Barcelona and the food industry sector have agreed to postpone the celebration of the show Food, scheduled for next May, until April 2022 due to the difficulties arising from the coronavirus crisis.

The institution has reported that next year “a more favorable situation is foreseen for the participation of national and international companies and professionals” in the main food fair of España and the second in a number of visitors in Barcelona after the Mobile World Congress.

The change of dates of Alimentaria & Hostelco [inicialmente del 4 al 7 de Abril de 2022], which was already suspended in April 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic, was decided “after consulting with the productive, associative and institutional fabric of the sector on the call scheduled for this year”.

Despite the postponement, the general director of Fira de Barcelona, Constantà Serrallonga, has highlighted “the importance, in such a complex context, of resuming the holding of events in the coming months and acting again as the engine of economic and social reactivation”. This is the case, for example, of Automobile Barcelona, which will take place from July 8 to 18 and will become the first major event in the automotive sector in Europe since the beginning of the Covid crisis.

In its last edition, in 2018, Alimentaria brought together 4,500 companies and 150,000 professional visitors, of which 25% came from abroad. Some of these actors may participate in the Gastronomic Forum Barcelona, from October 18 to 20, which will temporarily coincide with Alimentaria FoodTech, room on food transformation and preservation, in a week dedicated to the food sustainability within the framework of Barcelona’s role as the World Capital of Sustainable Food 2021.
