This is a consequence of the re-containment decided by the government to fight against the spread of Covid-19. The Negresco hotel, one of the most emblematic of Nice, closed on Sunday “until further notice”.

“We have been closed since Sunday and we have no date of reopening,” indicates the reception of the 5-star establishment with 128 rooms and suites, 80% filled in August but only 30% in October. “We have every hope for a reopening as soon as possible. In the meantime, we hope you will take good care of yourself ”, specifies the management of the Negresco on its website.

“Everything closes around us”

Sometimes nicknamed the Eiffel Tower of Nice, the hotel has been listed as a historical monument since 2003. In Cannes, the Carlton hotel, itself listed, had already closed at the beginning of October in response to an unprecedented collapse in activity, which was victim health restrictions and cascading cancellations of trade fairs and conferences.

Now, “90% of the city’s hotel stock is closed,” says the president of the Cannes hoteliers union. “We tried to manage with the curfew. But from the moment everything closes around us and as the two remaining small congresses in November have also been canceled, we are obliged to close, ”explains Christine Welter.
