The price of the US dollar in Peru was trading lower in the informal or parallel market today, Thursday, May 12, 2022. The exchange rate fell to S/ 3,770 for purchase and S/ 3,810 for sale, according to exchange houses in Lima.

On the other hand, in the interbank market, the greenback closed at S/ 3,790, according to data provided by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR).

The monetary entity detailed that the dollar has a decline of 5.04% so far in 2022, compared to the result recorded at the end of last year (S / 3,991).

The foreign currency registered an appreciation of 10.28% at the end of 2021 due to the impact of political uncertainty and doubts about the economic outlook due to the new variants of the coronavirus.

At the regional level, the currencies and stock markets of Latin America had an uneven closing on Wednesday, in a day marked by the inflation data for April in the United States that generated various interpretations throughout the session and caused high volatility in regional markets.

According to the Reuters agency, the increase in US consumer prices slowed sharply in April, as gasoline prices fell from record highs, suggesting that inflation may have peaked, although it is possible that remain high for a while and lead to the Federal Reserve maintaining its path of monetary tightening.

The consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.3% in April, the smallest increase since last August, the Labor Department said on Wednesday. The figure contrasted sharply with the 1.2% monthly increase in the CPI in March, which was the biggest advance since September 2005.

But the CPI slowdown is likely to be temporary. Gasoline prices, which accounted for most of the pullback in the monthly rate of inflation, are rising again and hovered around $4,161 a gallon earlier in the week, after falling below $4 in April, according to the Administration. of Energy Information.
