“20 Minutes” and UFC-Que Choisir answer your questions about bank rejection fees

Eating, travelling, paying taxes, buying or renting real estate, shopping… When it comes to consuming, the task can quickly become complicated. Especially in the midst of all these regulations and supposed bargains. Fortunately, you can count on 20 minutes and its partner, UFC-Que Choisir. With the Brief Conso, an expert from the association gives you a helping hand by answering your consumer questions.

And this week, we’re going to talk about bank rejection fees, the sums taken by banks when a direct debit is rejected because of an insufficient bank account balance or when the authorized overdraft limit is exceeded. In a press release published in early June, the consumer association urges the authorities to reduce the amount of these penalties, but also to impose on banks the systematic reimbursement of duplicate fees for the rejection of direct debits.

But how much are these fees? What is a duplicate? Can we get reimbursed? And what advice* does the association give to consumers? Matthieu Robin, financial sector project manager at Que Choisir, answers your questions on video.
