VIDEO. “Demonstrating to survive”: butchers mobilize against rising energy prices

Energetic artisan butchers refuse to start! banner announces: Butchers and sausage makers from across France held a demonstration on Tuesday outside the National Assembly in Paris. The purpose of this mobilization was to warn public authorities about the impact of rising energy prices on their activities.

According to trade unions, only 40% of French butchers use an energy shield. However, “our refrigerated cans and our refrigerators are running all the time,” explains a butcher from Ain, “and cooking gas,” adds another. These craftsmen say they are “very concerned” about the future of their business as their electricity and gas bills have risen significantly. “We stand for our survival,” sums up the mobilized butcher.

Later that day, the French Confederation of Butchers, Butchers, Delicatessen and Caterers (CFBCT) was adopted by the Economic Committee of the National Assembly. This week it will also be presented by the Bercy Ministry of Economy.
