Wall Street opens in green and the Dow Jones rises 0.80%

Wall Street began the day this Wednesday in the green and the Dow Jones Industrials, its main indicator, rose 0.80% in the early stages of the day, in a week of calm after the banking commotion.

Ten minutes after the start of operations at the NYSEthe Dow Jones added 262 points, up to 32,850 units, while the selective S&P 500 rose 0.97% or 38.75 integers, up to 4,040.25 points.

The composite index of the Nasdaq market, where the main technology companies are listed, also increased 1.18% or 149.75 units, up to 12,882.25 integers.

The CNBC channel interprets the trend this morning as a clear sign that “the worst of the regional banking crisis is over”alluding to the collapse of the Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) and the SignatureBank and the rapid responses of the US government and the big banks to come to their aid and thus stop the bleeding in its tracks.

On Monday, the First Citizens seized the assets, deposits and loans of the Californian SVB, in an operation that includes the purchase of US$72,000 million (66,491 euros at today’s exchange rates) in assets at a discount of US$16,500 million, which was interpreted as the happy closure of that banking crisis, which only two weeks before caused tremors on both sides of the Atlantic.

By sectors, optimism was the general tone and all woke up in green, with the greatest gains being for real estate (1.81%), non-essential goods (1.48%) and technology (1.45%).

Among the 30 Dow Jones stocks, almost all started equally positive, leading the trend Intel (3.79%), American Express (1.88%) and Microsoft (1.54%). Only two stocks, Merck (MSD outside the US and Canada) and United Health, were in the red, with slight decreases of 0.19% and 0.33%, respectively.
