Wall Street closes in green and the Dow Jones rises 0.47%

Wall Street began June on the rise after closing this Thursday in the green and the Dow Jones Industrials, its main indicator, rose 0.47%, when investors celebrated that the US Lower House approved yesterday the bill of debt ceiling, a crucial step to avoid a US default.

At the close of operations, the Dow Jones fell to 33,061 units and the selective S&P 500 gained 0.99% to 4,221 points.

For its part, the composite index of the Nasdaq market, in which the main technology companies are listed, rose 1.28%, to 13,100 integers.

Negotiations between Democrats and Republicans on the debt ceiling have been at the center of investor concerns for weeks.

Politicians have until June 5 to approve the measure in both chambers, the date on which the Treasury Department estimates that the country will exhaust its reserves.

Yesterday, the measure was approved in the lower house by a vote of 314-117 with bipartisan support.

Beyond the debt ceiling battle, investors are also looking forward to the June 13-14 Federal Reserve (Fed) monetary policy meeting, which may serve as a market catalyst.

Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker said yesterday that he is inclined to skip a rate hike at the next meeting.

However, he also said that Friday’s payroll report could be relevant and influence the decision to be voted on at the next meeting.

By sectors, the greatest gains were for technological and industrial, which rose 1.03% and 0.26%, respectively, while the only losses were for public services and industrial, with a decrease of 0 .78% and 0.09% respectively.

Among the 30 Dow Jones stocks, the companies with the biggest losses were Salesforce (-4.69%) and Amgen (-2.89%), while gains were mostly for American Express (2.62%) and Visa (2.47%).

In other markets, Texas oil closed at $70.10 a barrel, and at the end of the trading session the yield on the 10-year US bond fell to 3.60%, gold rose $1,995 an ounce, and the dollar lost ground against the euro, with a change of 1.0757.
