Orly and Roissy: Olympic and 14 July parade rehearsals cause significant delays

Some flights are delayed by more than an hour! The screens at Orly airport and, to a lesser extent, Roissy airport showed significant delays this Wednesday afternoon, both on departure and arrival. According to the flight tracking website Flightradar24, the average delay at Orly airport this Wednesday at 4pm is 66 minutes on arrival and 22 minutes on return. At Roissy airport, it is almost thirty minutes from takeoff.

On social media, some linked this to the aerial exercises taking place in the skies over the capital on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games (for example, we saw French patrol planes on Tuesday) and the opening ceremony of the July 14 Olympic parade, which will take place on Avenue Foch.

This was reported to Le Parisien by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC). “To allow military aircraft to pass, civil aircraft must be suspended,” the spokesman said, without mentioning “any other specific event” that could explain these delays, which could increase in the coming days with the repetition of these training maneuvers and then on July 14, during the military parade.

On July 26, the day of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, the airports of Roissy, Orly, Bourges and Beauvais will simply be closed from 7pm to midnight. In fact, there will be a ban on flights over Paris and the Paris region with a diameter of more than 150 km from 7pm to midnight.
