Lima, October 29, 2021Updated on 10/29/2021 10:53 am

The exchange rate rose on Friday by Mexico due to the depreciation of the peso for the fourth consecutive session after the market learned that the local economy contracted in the third quarter, and due to a rise in US Treasury bond yields and a generalized advance of the dollar.

Today the price of the dollar stood at 20.4404 pesos in the Mexican market, a level higher by 0.37% compared to the 20.3650 of the reference price on Thursday, according to Reuters data.

However, the dollar was heading for a moderate decline in October. So far this year, the greenback accumulates a gain of approximately 3% against the Mexican peso.

Mexico’s economy contracted in the third quarter, in its first decline since its recovery from the pandemic began, hit by the third wave of COVID-19 and bottlenecks in supply chains.

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) fell 0.2% at a quarterly rate, according to preliminary seasonally adjusted figures released on Friday by the statistics institute (INEGI).

On the other hand, the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) recorded losses on Friday. The benchmark S & P / BMV IPC index lost -0.11% and settled at 51,192.67 points at 10:14 am local time.
