The exchange rate rose on Friday by Mexico due to the fall of the peso that chained seven successive days down, due to a wave of aversion to risk assets due to concerns that a new variant of coronavirus could slow down the recovery of the global economy.

Today the dollar rose during early trading to its highest level in 14 months, while the Mexican stock market was at its lowest since July.

The price of the dollar was trading at 21.8730 pesos in the Mexican market, registering a 1.46% rise compared to Thursday’s reference price.

Previously, in international operations, especially in the Asian market, the Mexican peso fell 2.75% to 22.1510 units, according to Reuters data.

The Mexican peso accumulates a loss of more than 10% in the year and was heading to register its worst week since the one ended on September 25, 2020.

Meanwhile, the local benchmark S & P / BMV IPC index fell 2.67% to 49,271.69 points mid-day with a volume of 45 million traded securities. The square aims to score its third consecutive weekly decline.

The fall of 6.99% to 124.59 pesos of the shares of the financial group Banorte stood out.

International media reported that the new variant was detected in South Africa. The European Union and the United Kingdom are some of the countries that have tightened border controls, as scientists try to find out if the mutation is resistant to available vaccines.
