It’s easy to miss the mark. Remember that the request for retirement must be made 6 months before the desired departure date and up to 9 months before in the case of a request for early retirement for a long career. And beware of latecomers who risk finding themselves without resources between stopping their work and the payment of their first pension.

It is to avoid this pitfall that the official portal of Lassuranceretraite.fr recently set up My retirement agenda. Thanks to this web service, you can receive information by SMS or e-mail in preparation for your retirement, according to a sending schedule adapted to your situation. You must complete the online form to benefit from it.

In terms of deadlines, the first message is for example sent five years before the possible departure date, in order to have a complete summary of the different stages. Subsequent mailings will then be made four years, three and a half, three, two and a half, two years, one year, 10 months, 7 months and 6 months before your retirement date.

Service abroad

Once your pension has been awarded, it is still necessary to be able to keep it without interruption, which is not always easy for retirees expatriated abroad … Certain French pension funds indeed require that their pensioners send them a “Certificate of life”, also called “certificate of existence”, in order to continue to receive their retirement. This document is easily accessible on the official Info-retraite.fr portal, in the “My retirement payments” section. Once in hand, you must then have it completed by the competent local authority of the country in which you reside.

In order, once again, to avoid any suspension of payment, a new telephone assistance service was therefore set up in November 2021 for expatriate retirees. Managed by the National Old Age Insurance Fund (Cnav), it acts on behalf of all the pension funds.
