1. She bought an apartment and lives alone

The actress said that she has recently started living alone, since she bought her own apartment in Los Angeles, which initially shocked her mother.

“I know that it is a little different to live alone when you turn 20 because in Peru there is that custom of living with your parents until you get married and my mother was a little uncomfortable. She told me: ‘Are you going to live alone?’ In Peru, 4 generations live under one roof, but that’s a bit ‘crowded’ for me”, joked Isabela.

2. How her mother came to the US

Although she grew up in Ohio, the story of Isabela Merced begins in Peru, when her mother, at a very young age, decided to migrate to the United States, a brave gesture that aroused the admiration of the now famous actress.

“Almost all of my mother’s family lives in Peru. My mom came to the US when she was about 16 years old, she came by herself and that’s very impressive to me. At 16 I didn’t even know how to drive, now she’s a manager living in Los Angeles, I feel very proud of her”, says the artist.

3. There was a time when he didn’t want to speak Spanish anymore

Isabela remembers that her mother raised her speaking Spanish, which is why she considers this language her first language; however, when she reached school age, she confesses that she came to feel a need to “Americanize herself”.

“When I started school in the United States, I no longer wanted to speak Spanish with my mom. I told her: ‘if you speak to me in Spanish, I will answer you in English,’ ”said the actress, who caused her Peruvian mother annoyance with her response.

4. He studied at a school in Los Olivos

Isabela remembers that because of her disenchantment with her roots, her mother decided to send her to study in Peru for a while. “She was part of a punishment,” the actress recalls about the two semesters of the second year of elementary education that she did at a school in Los Olivos, where her mother had studied.

“My mother told me: ‘You live in the US, but you have to appreciate your culture and she sent me to study in Peru. At first I didn’t like her, I felt like a foreigner in that country that I didn’t know much”; Mercy said. “My mom wanted me to feel, like her, the love for Peru. After spending a lot of time with my family, studying in my uniform, eating Peruvian food, listening to Peruvian music, I fell in love. From there, I returned to Peru every year to spend Christmas and New Years. All thanks to my mom. Without her, I wouldn’t be able to speak Spanish,” says the 20-year-old.

5. Would you like to live one day in Peru?

Although currently her busy work schedule prevents it, Isabela says that she dreams of one day being able to live in different parts of the world, including, of course, Peru.

“When I have enough money and time to live in various places, it is one of my dreams. I would like to live in Peru and be with my family, with my dear Aunt Gloria, whom I miss a lot and is already old, “said Isabela, with special mention to one of her most beloved relatives.

It is a story that has to do with our experience as immigrants in a country like the United States, which has many opportunities and in which a class difference is also noticeable. When you come to Los Angeles there is a class difference between Latinos and gringos. There is a stereotype that Latinos work for gringos, it would be interesting to see that in an American version of ‘AFHS’, perhaps with some special guests, too, such as ‘Cara de pez’, ‘Ricolás’ or ‘Grace’”, the actress pointed out.

8. Will make a movie based on a novel by John Green

Recently, Isabela Merced confirmed that she will start shooting the movie “A thousand times until forever” in April, one of the novels by the famous American writer John Green, who became very popular among young people with “Under the Same Star.”
