What does Peruvian nature sound like? All about the exclusive album that will transport you without leaving home

Theirs is not commercial music, it doesn’t sound on the radio nor does it invite you to dance. But she wraps and transports; generates an atmosphere for contemplation, reflection or deepening, so necessary in current times. With his music Maribel Tafur he paints soundscapes, that is his passion. We listen to her sitting at the table of restaurants such as Central, Kjolle and Mil, in Cusco, because her creations are the musical complement during the gastronomic experience proposed by the chefs. Virgilio Martinez and Pia Leon. It is with them and with the Mater Initiative team, led by Malena Martínez, that after two years of production, today they are preparing the release of their first collaborative album, “Mater Soundscapes of Peru”, described as “an invitation to explore the country through of a unique sound journey, inspired by its beauty, textures, flavors, stories and roots”.

My thing is to make music that links the genre ambientexperimental instrumental, and what I call soundscapes”, tells us the composer and multi-instrumentalist who adds four productions, between EP and this new album that includes 10 songs that are also the product of the investigations carried out by Mater Initiative. “I immersed myself in all that they have been able to provide me, but I have also investigated, I have visited them and explored some ingredients on a sound level”, explains the artist, who considers this experience as a creative residency, “because it involves all this information not only from them as researchers but also the ‘inputs’ from all the disciplines that make up Mater“, limits Maribel Tafur, who since she was a child was involved in a constant family musical dynamic (her father Jorge ‘Coco’ Tafur was the creator of the children’s hits “Nubeluz” and founder of the tribute band Flashback). “I have dedicated myself to music since I was born. But it is throughout my career as a communicator, with market research and seeing how people can feel through music, that I decide to start a service where I put all this together and asked myself how I can serve, as a sound artist and producer. , so that a musical experience conveys what lies behind a concept, a space, a brand, an event, that has been developed“, Explain.

Thus, in 2011 he created his production company INTUNE MUSIC, a service specialized in curating, creating and licensing background music for commercial spaces. “But today, my day to day is to do ‘soundscapes‘, as I call them. I am passionate about creating these soundscapes for experiences”, shares the DJ who has participated in festivals in Peru and abroad and is also part of the band budapestwhich fuses indie folk with Peruvian rhythms.

“Mater Soundscapes of Peru” has also had the collaboration of Peruvian artists such as Ankalli and his charango, the designer Giuliana Origgi and the VJ Juan Carlos Yanaura. The album offers a sound journey following Virgilio Martínez’s gastronomic proposal of high altitude ecosystems: from -25 meters above sea level, on the coast, to 4,200 meters above sea level, at extreme heights.

Ahead of its release, the collaborative album by Maribel Tafur and Mater Initiative has started a pre-sale campaign, which invites the public to reserve their copies, thus contributing to the edition of the album in vinyl format (only 300 physical copies), which can be be separated until April 17. The artist indicates that everyone who pre-orders her album will immediately receive a download link for the digital version of the album (in MP3, WAV and FLAC formats). The campaign is carried out via the Qrates platform in this link.

Once this record comes out, it’s going to fly off the table, off my recording studio, and go everywhere. People will take it to their moments and use it. It is another life that is given to this project, thanks to this synergy that we have created”, reflects the young sound designer.
