The same photo, with the same text, shared at the same time on their respective Instagram and Twitter accounts. Elina Svitolina and Gaël Monfils announced on Sunday that they were expecting a child, a little girl who is due to be born in October. As a couple since 2019, the Ukrainian and the French had announced “taking a break” in February 2021, before getting back together and getting married in July of the same year.
On the short side, Svitolina (27, current 27th in the world) said on March 29 that she was taking a break, without giving a return date, to rest for a few weeks. The former world No. 3 had notably mentioned persistent back pain, but also her “unbearably torn heart. [par] what happens in [sa] homeland Ukraine”, invaded at war against Russia since February 24.
As for Monfils (35, 22nd in the world), he is preparing to play Roland-Garros, from Sunday.
