Yahaira Plasencia at the 2022 Heat Awards: “This race requires a lot of perseverance”

While in the Peruvian newspapers his private life usually takes the front pages, yahaira plasencia has continued to advance in his musical career outside our borders. This Thursday, for example, she will be one of the presenters of the 2022 Heat Awardsa gala that with only 7 editions has been positioned as a platform for emerging Latin talent, including the national salsa artist.

The 28-year-old singer will be, along with Colombian figures such as Goyo (from the group Chocquibtown) and María Laura Quintero (from the series “100 days to fall in love”), one of the presenters of the trophies that will be presented at a ceremony in the tourist Cap Cana resort, in addition to being nominated in the Best Tropical Artist category, with artists such as Gilberto Santa Rosa, Marc Anthony and Carlos Vives. For Plasencia, achievements like these are important to spread her work internationally, a job in which she feels that not everything has been firm steps forward.

“Just as I have advanced, I have also regressed at some point. I have felt that there have been difficult moments, but I have never left my career aside, I have always continued fighting for my dreams and that is how I remain to this day. The music that we are making with Sergio (George) is also taking me to other countries and I am very happy with the result, this career is about perseverance, you have to have a lot of patience to achieve what you want”, says the sauce boat that she also recognizes the work being done by other young exponents of Peruvian salsa who have also participated in the Heat Awards.

“Events like this are super important for artists who, like me, are just earning a place outside our country,” Plasencia explained, before mentioning the names of Amy G, Daniela Darcourt and Álvaro Rod, who will sing live this Thursday at the gala that It will be seen in more than 30 countries through the HTV network and worldwide via streaming on the LosHeat.tv app. “I think we all contribute a lot so that people turn to look at Peru and the talent that is in it,” says Yahaira, who after the ceremony will undertake another important trip; this time bound for Colombia, a country in which she has already begun to make a name for herself.

Plasencia will participate in Salsa al Parque 2022, where she is not only the only Peruvian invited, but also one of the few female exponents of this genre on the poster that includes artists such as Los Van Van and Andy Montañez. Despite her criticism, Yahaira has continued to grow and says she feels mentally stronger for what lies ahead in her career.

“I think criticism goes hand in hand with growing up and I am growing more and more. I am very focused on my career and what I want. I am mentally strong, I have not always been mentally strong, but everything that has happened to me in this process, everything that I have experienced in my career, has made me a more determined, stronger woman and above all from here”, he says pointing to his head.

Part of that determination is reflected in his new single: a version of Héctor Lavoe’s “Elcanta” in his style, which in his voice has become “Lacanta”, a song that initially intimidated him, but that he now feels It reflects a lot of what happens in your professional life.

“When Sergio (George) told us to make this song, it scared me a little, I’m not going to lie, but I heard the lyrics and I felt very identified, I think that’s why we made the song, as a message to our colleagues, to the artists who have difficult times, but we still have to go out on stage, to give a nice show, no matter how complicated we are inside”, explains Plasencia.

The official video for the song will be released this Wednesday, June 1 at 3 pm on the artist’s official YouTube channel.
