The movie starring Tom Cruise, “Top Gun: Maverick” (2022), swept the box office worldwide and in Peru. That is why guitar legend Steve Stevens was recently interviewed by the renowned magazine “Guitar Techniques” about his participation in the main piece of the first film “Top Gun: Passion and Glory” (1986), entitled “Top Gun Anthem ”.
Stevens discussed in the interview how he met the song’s composer, Harold Faltermeyer, when the latter was recruited to play on a Billy Idol album: “Harold Faltermeyer had come to record keyboards for Billy Idol’s third album, ‘Whiplash Smile,’” counted.
“He was a friend of our producer Keith Forsey. Then he asked me if he would be interested in having an opportunity to record guitars on the theme of the movie (‘Top Gun: Passion and Glory’) after a few hours”, continued narrating.
The song composed by Harold required an emotional element and this is when the talent of Steve Stevens came into action.: “When I recorded my guitars I was able to track down an entire recording. I thought since the end of the solo stayed on the same G chord for four bars, going up intervals, hitting those intervals on the open third string would be a great ending.”
In addition, Steve Stevens commented that the guitar he used to record was a Charvel San Dimas with a 68 Marshall plexi amplifier and a Boss GE7 pedal to give more power to the recording.
Stevens, considered one of the best guitarists of his generation, will arrive in Lima with his musical partner billy idolto appear on September 4 at the Arena Peru.
