The cast of the next film in the franchise The Hunger Games continues to expand. After Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth, already cast in the roles of Lucy Gray Baird and Coriolanus Snow respectively, it’s Hunter Schafer’s turn to be recruited to play an important character in the adaptation of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
The actress ofEuphoria will play the role of Tigris Snow, the cousin and confidante of Coriolanus. The latter is at the heart of the story of The Hunger Games (whether in the books or the movies), as he will become the autocratic “president” of the post-apocalyptic nation of Panem. He is only 18 years old in the story of this “prequel” to the literary series, and is not yet the tyrant he will become, of course.
Where are we going ?
This new film, which takes place decades before the first episodes of the franchise featuring Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen, will be directed by Francis Lawrence, who was already behind the camera for three of the four films in the saga.
The Lionsgate studio, which produces the feature film, therefore hopes to relaunch the franchise with a new series in the world imagined by Suzanne Collins. It is not yet known whether the film will adapt the entire novel from which it is taken, but at the end of the story, there is nothing to suggest that the main character, that of Lucy Gray Baird, can return (Warning, spoiler) since she has disappeared without a trace, the author deliberately leaving her fate unclear.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is due out on November 17, 2023.
