Woody Allen retiring? Filmmaker says making movies no longer excites him like it used to

the filmmaker Woody Allenwho has faced a backlash in Hollywood over an allegation of sexual assault by his adopted daughter, said Tuesday that he will shoot a new movie in Paris this fall and it could be his last.

Allen, 86, appeared in a rare interview with actor Alec Baldwin to discuss his career and his new book “Zero Gravity,” a collection of humorous essays.

“A lot of the excitement is gone,” Allen said of the movie.

“When I used to make a movie, I would walk into a movie theater across the country. Now you make a movie and you have a couple of weeks in a movie theater, maybe six weeks or four weeks and then it goes straight to streaming or pay-per-view (…) it’s not that nice for me.”

Allen gave no details about his next film, which would be his 50th.

The four-time Oscar-winning director of “Annie Hall” and other comedies has repeatedly denied allegations that he molested his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, in 1992.

Many celebrities and Hollywood executives distanced themselves from Allen after the #MeToo movement went global in 2017 and sparked new attention on sexual misconduct.

HBO picked up the accusation against Allen in the 2021 series “Allen v. Farrow.”

Baldwin, who has appeared in three of Allen’s films, did not bring up the subject during the interview, which was broadcast live on Baldwin’s Instagram page.

On Sunday, Baldwin wrote on Instagram that he had “ZERO INTEREST in anyone’s self-righteous judgments and posts” about his planned interview.

Baldwin’s last film, “Rust,” ended in tragedy when a gun he was holding fired a live bullet, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin said he did not fire the gun and that he was “heartbroken” by the incident. (Reporting by Lisa Richwine in Los Angeles; Editing in Spanish by Vicente Valdivia).
