Fred White, drummer for the American band Earth, Wind & Fire, has died at the age of 67, according to what he reported on Monday. the specialized portal Pitchfork.
The reasons for his death are not known, which was announced on Sunday on the Instagram social network by his brother, bassist Verdine White, and by the band itself in two tribute messages.
Verdine recalled that Fred was a young musical prodigy and was part of the original nine-piece composition of the multi-talented band, achieving “gold records at the tender age of 16.”
Earth, Wind & Fire was created in Chicago in 1969 and became one of the world’s best-selling bands thanks to its fusion of rhythms, including funk, rock, R&B, disco and African sounds.
Winner of six Grammy Awards, she is emblematic of the 1970s and the creator of great hits such as “September”, “Let’s Groove” and “Boogie Wonderland”.
According to Pitchfork, Fred White left the band in the 1980s but joined again when she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.
