The film comes from an important run of international recognition. He was recently the winner of the 2023 Golden Globe, where he prevailed over proposals such as the German “All Quiet on the Front”, the Belgian “Close”, the South Korean “The Decision to Leave” and the Indian “RRR (Rise Roar Revolt)”. .
“Argentina, 1985″ will compete for the Oscar with films from Germany, Belgium, Poland and Ireland.
With an impeccable Ricardo Darín as prosecutor Julio Strassera, very well accompanied by Peter Lanzani (as his assistant, Luis Moreno Ocampo), “Argentina, 1985” ventures into the dark stage of the last Argentine military regime, this time showing the efforts of the justice for punishing in a civil court those responsible for the illegal repression that claimed thousands of victims.
Yes, the film directed by Santiago Miter develops the trial of the Military Juntas that ended with the life sentence for Jorge Rafael Videla and Emilio Eduardo Massera; 17 years in prison for Roberto Eduardo Viola; eight for Armando Lambruschini, and four years and six months for Orlando Ramón Agosti. While Omar Graffigna, Leopoldo Fortunato Galtieri, Basilio Lami Dozo and Jorge Anaya were acquitted.
The crimes committed by the Juntas, although it must be taken into account that the 1985 trial took place when such terrible events had not yet been discovered, such as the so-called “death flights”, a system orchestrated by the authorities to get rid of detainees at those who threw -alive- into the sea from an airplane.

The film focuses exclusively on that trial, on how Strassera is chosen to accuse the military leaders after the Military Court refused to prosecute them.
The prosecutor entered the trial with an evident lack of popular confidence in the outcome. But Strassera recruited young graduates who helped him carry out a job that seemed impossible.
As we explained lines above, the film portrays the work of the prosecutor Julio Strassera (Ricardo Darín), and his assistant Luis Moreno Ocampo (Peter Lanzani), to gather evidence of the crimes under a climate of threats.
