Guillermo del Toro wins the Bafta award with his new version of “Pinocchio”

The reimagining of “Pinocchio”, directed by Guillermo del Torowon the Bafta for best animated film this Sunday at the British Academy Film Awards.

The reinterpretation of the character created in the 19th century by Carlo Collodi, with a new story presented in the interwar period, repeats the success it already achieved at the Golden Globes, where it also won the award for best animated film, and takes run for the Oscars, where she is nominated in the same category.

Del Toro’s film is also up for best production design and best soundtrack at the gala to be held this Sunday in the British capital.

Del Toro, who has already won two Baftas with “The Shape of Water” and another for “Pan’s Labyrinth”, thanked Netflix for trusting the story of Pinocchio during Benito Mussolini’s Italy.

“And I would like to add that I am very grateful to the Baftas for allowing us to be here, because animation is not something for children. It is an art medium, for everyone. You must be in this conversation.”said the Mexican director in his thank you speech.
