On June 8, 2018 at 1:45 am the life of Daniela Darcourt completely changed. The artist’s debut was accompanied by a series of unfortunate events that has been repeated during her subsequent birthdays. Awaiting the release of her new album “Catarsis” on April 20, the singer is praying that her story does not repeat itself.
At just 26 years old, the artist already leads the Peruvian salsa movement that has singers like Yahaira Plasencia or Josimar among its ranks, she will offer a different album. Among her greatest hits are songs like “Probably”, “Señor Mentira” or the iconic “I don’t believe it”, a song in which Tito Nieves masterfully accompanies the singer.
“I don’t want to give a concept structure for the public to adopt, but I want this to adapt to them. There is very little left for you to see what is inside this album, the sensations and colors that live inside the album”. comments in an interview Tradewhile preparing for the show and improving his studies at the Orson Welles School of Music.
-What can we expect prior to the release of the album?
“Ya no te amo” will be released on March 3, a song that talks about the moment in which one manages to overcome someone and learns to find a space for oneself. This goes with the concept of empowerment, a theme with which I have always been seen. I am the woman who always sings of heartbreak and trash all the men who believe they have the right to do what they want with one.
Also, it works as a hook for them to visit the album and say: “Wait, Daniela just told us ‘I don’t love you anymore’, now she tells me ‘My life has gone’ and then she talks to me about doing forbidden things”. I have never talked about it, but now I am daring to do this.
There are many people who are single because they do not risk being with someone, they think that it is a minefield and that that person is not worth it, even if they die for her. That wave of feelings is inside this album and soon it will be on stage too.
-How was the process of creating this album?
These productions that I have already advanced, which are more than half of the album, were made after 7 at night, there is something about the night and the early morning that they let the artist fly, they leave him with much more musical wisdom because they flow more things for some strange reason.
Now with the support of international musicians and producers, without detracting from the work we have done in Peru, I have had the pleasure of working while we learned and shared. In a certain way, we continued to grow as we have been doing.
Now I’m going to Miami with one of Marc Anthony’s producers to finish this wonderful production. Beyond the fact that he is the producer of that singer, it is the way in which he shows me his respect, his work and interest in being in this project, which fills my soul greatly.
-What is the difference between your previous album and “Catarsis”?
It’s quite different because for the previous album I brought maestro Alain Pérez from Cuba, he was here with my director and my musicians in a kind of laboratory inside a studio. Now it has been different because I have been the one who has moved from the habitat.
In this new place we have all spent a full day just to lay out a song, the next day to give ideas for choirs, guides, instrumental bases and after that, one day to put the final voice and for the product to come out as such.
“The new thing we’re looking for on this album is to get the audience more involved with the songs as well, not just by clapping or standing up to clap, but to give them the feeling that they’re producing something of mine.”
-Why is it called “Catharsis”?
It is a word that the world does not usually use, it is powerful and even scary. It’s called “Catharsis” because of the moments I’ve been going through. From having many friends to having almost no friends, from having failed relationships to maintaining a very solid and beautiful relationship, from having problems at home and now living a harmonious life.
In addition, for the simple reason that all people are questioning themselves every day: “Do I really want to get in front of myself and detail my mistakes or congratulate myself on some things?”, is that the catharsis comes. We all have those fluctuations of feelings and emotions.
-How is that fluctuation of emotions reflected in the songs of this new album?
Soon the advance of the album “Ya no te amo” will be released, but also within the album there is a song called “Se me fue la vida”. Anyone listening to the album at her house will tell me: “A few moments ago you were empowered. And now you come to tell me that there is no life anymore because the man left you??”. This is how it is, a swing of emotions.
It is a very personal feeling for people to be at a million one day and feel below zero the next and then feel below zero. That’s how I’ve felt for a long time and that’s how I feel sometimes, because being an artist is not just creation and production, I need to spend time with the people I love.
-What can the public find inside this album?
I don’t want to give a concept structure for the public to adopt, but I want this to adapt to them. There is very little left for you to see what is inside this album, the sensations and colors that live inside the album.
The new thing that we are looking for in this album is to make the public also get more involved with the songs, not only with clapping or getting up to applaud, but to give them the feeling that they are producers of something mine, and by April 20 we will transfer all these emotions to the amphitheater of the Parque de la Exposición. It will be two days after my birthday. In other words, my birthday falls on a Thursday and taking advantage of the weekend I hope to have a good time and catharsis together with the entire public.
