Jamie Lee Curtis will be the guest star of the series “The Sticky”

The recent winner of Oscar, Jamie Lee Curtiswill be part of the cast also made up of Margo Martindale (“Paris, je t’aime, 2006), Chris Diamantopoulos (“True Story”, 2021) and Guillaume Cyr (“L’Imposteur”, 2016), reported the Prime Video platform through a statement.

The series, created by Brian Donovan (“Kelly’s Hollywood”, 2015) and Ed Herro (“American Housewife”, 2017), will be directed by Michael Dowse (“What If”, 2013) and Joyce Wong (“Wexford Square”, 2016).

In addition to Prime Video, “The Sticky” also has production companies Blumhouse Television, Megamix, Sphere Media and Comet Pictures, the latter owned by Curtis, as partners.

The development of the series inspired by the real case of the theft of 70% of the world’s supply of maple syrup is already taking place in the city of Montreal in the province of Quebec (Canada).

The series portrays the competent syrup farmer Ruth Landry -played by Martindale-, who, tired of the bureaucracy in her country and the threat of losing her farm, decides to change her destiny and that of her community by stealing millions of dollars in syrup. maple.

INSPIRED BY A TRUE EVENT

In July 2011, the Canadian Police discovered the theft of almost 10,000 barrels of maple syrup -valued at US$22.3 million- from one of the warehouses located in the town of Saint-Louis-de-Blanford, between Montreal and Quebec City.

The perpetrator of the largest maple syrup theft in the history of the North American country was Richard Vallières, who with the help of more than two dozen accomplices managed to replace the contents of the barrels with water for months.

After months of investigation, the Canadian Police arrested Vallières and 25 other people and recovered 65% of the product.

In 2017, the author of the theft faced a trial in which he declared that he had sold the stolen maple syrup for 8 million dollars and in 2022 he was sentenced to seven years and 10 months in prison for robbery, fraud and trafficking in stolen goods, as well as to the payment of a fine for the value of the maple syrup that was not recovered.

The story had already been told in one of the chapters of the Netflix documentary series presented by Alex Gibney “Dirty Money”.
