Japan International MANGA Award: What it consists of, how to apply and what prizes there are

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan announced the call for the 18th International MANGA Award, which aims to recognize the outstanding works of manga artists around the world. In this way, the Asian country seeks to continue promoting manga culture worldwide.

In the following paragraphs you will find all the information necessary to apply to the international contest and what the prizes would be if your work turns out to be one of those chosen.

How to apply to the contest?

Those interested can present their works from April 12, 2024 to July 5, 2024. Applications can be submitted in print or digital (PDF) format. It is recommended that you review the contest rules for specific details on the submission format and other requirements. In this link you will find all the information.

What are the evaluation criteria?

  • The contest is open to international manga artists with works of more than 16 pages, both published and unpublished, who have not previously been awarded in this contest.
  • The works must have been created within the last three years and must not infringe the intellectual property rights of third parties.
  • Entrants must be non-Japanese nationals and own full rights to their works.

The award ceremony

The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Tokyo in early 2025, where winners will have the opportunity to be recognized before an international audience.
