Daniel F and his message when returning to the concerts: “The worst pandemic is still indifference” | VIDEO

He was probably the national artist that offered the most virtual concerts since the confinement began. Despite the distance with his followers, Daniel F always stayed close. Not only through their online presentations, but also with interactions on social networks through comments and even video calls. The Peruvian artist has been very active during the pandemic, but only tomorrow will he return to a stage with an audience in front of him.

Our idea was to return for December, but the possibility of playing with the whole band at La Cúpula (de las Artes) appeared and I said yes, I couldn’t miss the opportunity. It was thus that we agreed to return a little earlier than planned.”, Says Daniel. “There is a crossing of emotions, the joy of returning and the most enormous sadness of knowing that many friends, relatives and neighbors are no longer with us. Several colleagues have left and more than a celebration for the return, all the recitals that come I take them as a greeting to them. With all due respect and love“, Add.

—How did you come up with the idea of creating this intimate space with your followers in private online concerts?

Private events I have had since the nineties, but of course they were face-to-face. They called me for weddings, birthdays and I would go. The idea as such has existed long before. I didn’t consider this as an option because I honestly didn’t think someone was going to call me about this. With the pandemic he envisioned a rather hopeless future, but suddenly they began to write. Then came the more open recitals, like concerts, all virtually.

“What do you think the future of the post-pandemic underground rock scene will hold?”

. Many groups have had the audacity, the audacity, to continue releasing albums and songs. I believe that when the pandemic loses its horrible lethality, the local rock movement will not only make up for lost time on stage, but they will return with such impetus and enthusiasm that they could end up surprising Latin America in general and who knows world.

—You will soon release a vinyl reissue of “Kúrsiles romanzas” and “Kúrsiles surpluses”, how did you cheer yourself up like that?

Among the positive things of the pandemic are these types of decisions, to release new albums and reissue things that have already been released. There is a desire to be able to reach more people. This type of material, like that of the (Kúrsiles) romanzas, which was originally intended for vinyl, but never came out in this format, will now be able to be published like this. I had already put aside this issue of releasing records because of the excessive costs that this implies or because of the same laziness on my part, but it was one of my older brothers who encouraged me to do it. He told me that “having the musicians you have today, you should at least release a couple of records.” And you’re right, it would be inappropriate not to. I am always planning to compose and write things. In the concerts I give I always play songs that are not on any album and that amount of material has grown so much that it already needs to be edited. Parallel to this will come out the vinyl material of romances and leftovers.

“Have you been writing a lot lately, while you were locked up?”

I write every day, I’m writing all the time, both songs and texts that I sometimes share on social networks. I have a book that should have come out in 2020. Now I hope it can be released in 2022. It is an autobiography told in a slightly different way. The autobiography of a musician in which there is almost no music anywhere, but I tell things that happened in parallel to an event, be it a song or a concert. There are a lot of stories from the seventies to today. In theory the book had already been closed, but since it is not yet published, I keep adding more and more things.

—You have always been very active in social networks, but now with the pandemic this has been the only channel of contact with your followers, how are you doing?

Whenever I can, I try to reply to everyone on the Facebook account. A lot of people write to me, they tell me a lot of things. From their moods to their romantic situations, they don’t ask me for solutions, but they do want to know that they have someone to talk to. I am delighted to be able to listen to them, to be able to talk, to be able to exchange an opinion. Not only do I usually answer everyone, but I even call them on the videophone. Suddenly someone puts something interesting and I say ‘wow! Who will this leg be? What does?’ And right there I call it. People are surprised and we talk for a while. I don’t know if everyone who is dedicated to this thing (the singers) does this, but it is a question of having time. I have more or less time to be able to offer this piece of my life to be able to establish these links with the friends who write to you.

—You also show that complicity with your audience at your concerts, you always tell something between song and song

. That made the interest of the people who were there grow a bit. I have had that custom ever since and I have seen it as something normal. I thought that all the groups in the world did that, that they told stories. I am going to say a few words. And this despite the fact that I do not have the gift of speech. What’s more, it doesn’t show much right now, but I’m a stutterer, I have difficulty speaking. Among colleagues and friends I preferred to remain silent and this made people see me as someone mysterious, circumspect, when in fact I did not speak because I was afraid that they would laugh.

—Now that you return to the face-to-face stages, will you continue with the online concerts?

Yes, of course, the virtual is over. It is a fantastic experience, it connects you with people who are far away. For example, I once had a recital with a person who is in Saudi Arabia and his family contacted us to celebrate his birthday. It was a good straw connection, quite emotional, that must and will be maintained.

Daniel F The Dome of the Arts is presented this Saturday at 6:00 pm and you can get tickets here.
