Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez has been appointed new artistic director of the “Rossini Opera Festival” of the Italian city of Pesaro (north), confirmed today this institution dedicated to the figure of the composer.
The lyrical singer, one of the most acclaimed on the international scene, will begin his position on January 1, 2022, as agreed today by the Board of Directors of the event.

Among other things, it will help the superintendent, Ernesto Palacio, in the creation and implementation of future programs for the festival.
“I am very happy and I feel honored by this new artistic adventure, especially because it is given to me by a festival where I was artistically born when I was only 23 years old”, Flórez stated in a note.
The superintendent highlighted his “personal and work” relationship with the Peruvian tenor since 1994 and assured that since then he has taken their suggestions and ideas into account: “Your contribution will be essential for this new page” of the festival, said Palacio.
Together with Flórez (Lima, 1973), the Board of Directors of the Pesaro Festival has chosen as the new general director the Italian Cristian Della Chiara, until now responsible for Marketing.
The Rossini Opera Festival (ROF) is an entity that since 1980 has promoted a prestigious international festival entirely dedicated to the famous composer Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) and serves as a laboratory for music.
