World Travel Awards 2021: Peru wins three important awards in the ‘Tourism Oscar’

Peru has won three categories in the global edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2021, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) and the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (Promperú).

Informally known as the ‘Oscars of tourism’ due to their importance in the sector, the World Travel Awards highlight year after year the best global destinations to visit. At this year’s gala, its 28th edition to date, Peru was able to stand out in three important categories: Leading culinary destination in the world 2021, Leading cultural destination in the world 2021 and Leading tourist attraction in the world 2021 (Machu Picchu ).

Amora Carbajal, executive president of Promperú, celebrated the award. “We are proud of the important awards our country is receiving, which make us one of the most important tourist destinations in the world. We will continue working to ensure that Peru continues with a firm process of safety and sustainability in each of the regions and tourist destinations that today welcome visitors from all over the world, where gastronomy and cultural heritage are a source of joy and admiration.“, he claimed.

Peru has had an important performance in past awards and has been the winner of the category of best culinary destination in the world without fail between 2012 and 2019.In 2019 it also managed to win the titles for best cultural destination and best attraction. tourist (Machu Picchu), a feat that he achieves again in 2021.

It was not the only award given to our country, since the WTA also recognized the Cusco hotel Explora Valle Sagrado as the Best Adventure Hotel of 2021.

The news of these awards comes just a few months after the World Travel Awards awarded Peru in its regional version with the awards for Best Culinary Destination, Best Cultural Destination, Tourist Attraction for Machu Picchu and South America’s Leading Tourism Office 2021 for Promperú
