This Sunday, January 23, at noon, Peru lost one of its greatest exponents in the performing arts. Ismael Contreras, director, playwright and actor; He passed away at the age of 77. The news was confirmed by Palosanto, theater and communication; cultural association led by the artist.
“Our beloved director, Ismael Contreras, is no longer with us. A respiratory arrest product of a terrible disease such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis has taken it from us. A disease for which there is no treatment, but which he faced day by day with great courage and hope. His strength was leaving him, fatigue invaded him at the slightest effort, but he continued constantly enjoying the family, writing and organizing his projects”, indicated the association in a publication for the social network Facebook.
The actor, who participated in the Peruvian film “Elevangel de la carne” (2013), had among his last works the play “Caligula” (2018); staging in the auditorium of the North American Peruvian Cultural Institute. He also filmed scenes in “La pena maxima”, a still unreleased film based on the novel by Santiago Roncagliolo. His shooting partner, Emmanuel Soriano, also manifested himself in networks.
“Our dear friend and actor, Ismael Contreras, is gone. With his nobility he swam freely and talented for everything. Great person, gosh. Sharing the filming of “La Pena Máxima” has been an honor and a pleasant gift. Rest in Peace and have a good trip dear Ismael”. Similarly, the Ministry of Culture dedicated a publication to him.
The wake will be held at the Virgen de Fátima church on Monday, January 24, starting at 2:00 pm Address: Malecón de la reserva 915, Miraflores, Lima.
Palosanto confirmed to El Comercio that in 2021 Contreras commemorated 50 years of artistic life.
