- The new open-air shopping center in Mundolsheim, the Shopping promenade coeur Alsace, opens its doors today.
- After two and a half works and 133 million investment, the shopping area offers a new concept that gives pride of place to families, small brands and franchises, but also to solidarity businesses and services.
Between stroll and shopping, the opening this Wednesday of the first section of the North shopping area in Mundolsheim will make people talk. Feared by some traders and elected officials from Strasbourg, impatiently awaited by others, the new shopping area will be delivered on time.
Called “Shopping promenade coeur Alsace”, this new generation shopping center, the fourth of its type in France, is much more than a simple “linear shopping” destination. The objective clearly displayed by the expert group in commercial town planning Frey, investor and developer of the site for the Eurometropolis, is to “give a good reason to travel with the family to live a shopping experience”, image Antoine Frey, his Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
Wood and stone to seduce
If at first glance, the immense but narrow parking lot under the high voltage pylons, surrounded by new buildings housing very large brands such as Leroy Merlin or even Decathlon can disappoint by its banality, the surprise is all the greater when the one crosses one of the porticoes of the promenade. Real playgrounds for children, wooded plots as in an amusement park and which invite relaxation, bordered by many restaurants with studied design, the place invites to a stroll through works of street art made by artists of fame.
But it is also the enhancement of noble materials such as wood or stone that seduce. And to remove the “brand new” side, many planks and sleepers were used to give character to the main aisle, to the shops. “You can come without having to go shopping but to have a good time”, insists Antoine Frey. Have a good time but also enjoy the market garden products of the five hectare agropark, sold on site in an ultra-short supply chain, the result of collaboration with a collective of local producers.
A plural offer
Good times but also services, because it is also one of the strengths of this shopping area: services and solidarity. A medical center and even an ophthalmological clinic, but also, and this is unprecedented, commercial recycling. The Social market, located in the heart of the promenade and not “in a remote corner” as Antoine Frey points out, is a new concept of solidarity store. A large, colorful sales area, skilfully giving the sensation of an organized bazaar, for associations of the social and solidarity economy such as Vêtis and Carijou, or brands specializing in the second life of trendy objects and furniture. Another novelty is the Social club: the future home of associations, where street art works, notably by Speedy Graphito, are currently exhibited.
Walking, but also of course shopping. Of the 65,000 m² of floor space in this first section of the northern shopping area, 86 brands are organized, including 50 stores in the long term. Clothing, decoration, furniture, indoor climbing hall, there is something for everyone. From the big name to the small local trade (the cheese maker Lorhro will set up there soon), the Shopping promenade has something to satisfy lovers of easy and pleasant trade. But also to worry shopkeepers in downtown Strasbourg …
