Galapagos Gourmet has an appetite. Having acquired a stake in the Fossier biscuit factory at the end of 2019, the Breton group has just completely swallowed up the company that manufactures the famous pink biscuits of Reims. “This takeover is part of Galapagos Gourmet’s corporate mission to preserve and promote regional and unique know-how,” the group said in a press release.
Already owner of Gavottes and Traou Mad palets, the Galapagos Gourmet group is therefore adding to its bosom the oldest biscuit factory in France. Created in 1756, it owes its fame to the famous pink biscuits from Reims, which were notably served for the coronation of Louis XVI in 1775.
A biscuit factory weighed down by the crisis last year
Maison Fossier, which has six stores in Marne and Aube, did not escape the crisis last year with a turnover that amounted to eight million euros, against 12 million in 2019. Acquired by Galapagos Gourmet, the Reims biscuit factory now hopes to “return to sustainable growth” with an expected increase of 20% in its turnover this year.
In particular, it hopes to strengthen its sales on mass distribution channels as well as for export and in the out-of-home catering sector.
