A party organized on the night of January 21 to 22 in a gîte in Courtenay (Loiret), rented via Airbnb, degenerated. While the owner of the place had accepted that his property be occupied by eight people, several dozen would have party all night, deteriorating the cottage, reports The Republican Yonne. According to the daily, there would be 25,000 euros in damage.
The 250 m² gîte is a large accommodation which certainly makes it possible to organize beautiful parties. But in these times of health crisis, the owner was keen to limit excess. The tenant, who contacted him on Airbnb, allegedly said that they would be eight to occupy the cottage during a baptism. Faced with the owner’s reluctance, he reportedly announced that there were only four.
“Dozens of cars parked” in front of the gîte
Before the evening began, the tenant reportedly reported unexpected power cuts, then, around midnight, problems with the Internet connection and the fire alarm. The owner came to the lodge with a guard from the security company. There, the two men saw “dozens of parked cars” including several Porsches in front of the apartment.
In total, about forty people would have participated in the party. The owner will not be able to dislodge them. Alerted, the gendarmes reportedly noted “several offenses” and issued tickets. It was after noon that the owner was able to enter the lodge and discover the damage: holes in the walls, torn guardrails, stained sofa, broken table or even the ceiling stained with “traces of alcohol and food”.
The owner informed Airbnb, which will appoint experts. But difficult to know if the platform will compensate him. In hindsight, the owner should have canceled the reservation, but it would have been his responsibility and he feared bad reviews as well. For its part, the gendarmes are looking for the person or people who rented the accommodation and organized the evening.
