What are genital warts and how to get rid of them?

Genital warts are frequent, contagious and recurrent anal and genital warts. They look like small bumps on the skin of the genitals or mucous membranes, and are sometimes called “cockscomb.” In our podcast Wait a minute !we find our appointment Everything is explained, and we discuss this subject with Dermato Drey, dermatologist for ten years, very active on social networks with his videos explaining dermatology. She just posted Make peace with your skin (Larousse, 16.95 euros).

Human papillomaviruses, highly contagious viruses

Genital warts are caused by viruses of the human papilloma, and constitute, according to the French National Society of Gastroenterology (SNFGE), the first sexually transmitted disease in the world. Indeed, 5 to 7 out of 10 sexually active people in the world will come into contact with human papillomaviruses during their lifetime. And 2 to 5% of the sexually active population aged 20 to 30 will have warts, specifies the SNFGE.

In this interview, to listen to above, Dermato Drey details what warts are, what they are due to. They mainly affect immunocompromised people. The dermatologist recalls that without treatment, condyloma generally disappears in a few years. If there are treatments to overcome it, the recurrence is however frequent. Regular monitoring is required.

Treatment and risk of recurrence

If condyloma does not pose health risks, because they are not cancerous, hygiene and protection measures can prevent them: washing your hands before intercourse, using a condom, for example. All the explanations and advice from Dermato Drey to listen to above.

Everything is explained is a weekly interview meeting where we discuss sexuality, health and society. If you have any questions on these topics, we forward them to professionals for them to answer. How to do ? You leave a voice message on our answering machine, from the button below.
