Are nature lovers and when they are adults they want to work to protect it. Since childhood they have realized that caring for the environment is essential to live well. “You have to make them remember [a las demás personas]that nature needs our help to be better”, says Alexandra Vásquez, only 11 years old.
These children not only look to the future to improve, but have already incorporated recycling into their daily lives. Joaquin Echevarria10 years old, uses bottles and cardboard to make pencil holders and Angely Condoriof the same age, uses the bottles to make pots.
But not all the children involved in the School Environmental Promoters program who were sworn in on Friday, April 22, during Earth Day, knew about recycling and sustainability before. Camila Martinez, aged 11, had never recycled. She says that “when i found out i was going to stay on this show [tras ser elegida por su profesora] I got excited because I love nature”.
The program carried out by Municipality of Jesus Maria Its objective is to strengthen and develop capacities that contribute to the protection of the environment, the sustainable use of natural resources and generate leaders with an impact. 28 schools have participated in this edition, but previous years it has also been developed with other educational institutions.
The mayor of the municipality, Jorge Quintanatold El Comercio that “today the protection of the environment implies more life, more time, the earth must be protected and children must grow up convinced that we have to improve the quality of the air, the green areas and since childhood we try to instill this”.
The activity of the swearing in of the environmental promoters took place in the Eco Park of the Campo de Marte where the little leaders could see everything about recycling, nurseries, compost, an aquarium made of recycled materials and other activities that take place in this space.
