Students urged to donate blood on campus

“It is thanks to the generosity of the students, and to the bags that we will collect during Blood for Blood Campus that we will be able to meet the transfusion needs of patients at the end of the year. It is therefore a very important issue for us! explains Doctor Fabien Lassurguere, regional sampling manager at EFS Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

The French blood establishment and the Lions Club of Gironde are organizing a major collection on the Pessac campus from November 15 to 17, when donations are traditionally less important at the end of the year.

About thirty EFS employees and 120 volunteers will be mobilized over the three days, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the aim of welcoming 1,500 donors by appointment, under the tents set up on the Esplanade Aula Magna.

Raise awareness of rare bloods

The opportunity also for the EFS to raise awareness, from November 14 to 20, of the 250 rare blood groups unknown to the general public. “People originating or having ancestors originating from the African continent, the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean are more likely to present a blood group particularly sought after for transfusion in our country, explains the EFS in its press release. To treat all patients effectively by providing them with blood products that are as close as possible to their blood characteristics, it is therefore essential that the diversity of donors reflects that of patients. »
