Les Bonnes fées open a wellness area for chemotherapy patients

Mirrors, brushes, makeup palettes. At first glance, nothing allows us to say that we are at the heart of the oncology department of the Montpellier University Hospital (Hérault). And yet, yes. On Monday, the association les Bonnes fées, carried by 17 Miss France, inaugurated at Saint-Eloi hospital a Maison des Bonnes fées, a space of well-being, intended to welcome chemotherapy patients. Here, we try to put the disease in parentheses, the time of a make-up or a treatment.

Every day, around ten patients are welcomed at the Maison des Bonnes fées. “And when they cannot move, it is the socio-esthetician who goes to the rooms”, explains Patricia Fournier-Fabre, health manager in medical oncology at the University Hospital of Montpellier. “We already have very high quality technical care in the hospital. We wanted to add a little extra, something other than chemotherapy. For the patients, having a little cocoon, coming here thinking of something other than the disease, something other than the side effects of the treatments, this is extremely important. “

“There are laughs, there are smiles, despite the illness”

Since the opening of this space, in the oncology department, “there are laughter, there are smiles, despite the illness,” resumes Patricia Fournier-Fabre. We have succeeded in putting joy on the faces of the patients, it is the greatest happiness that we can have. “” It is for many good causes that one becomes Miss France, and this one, she is part of it, “says Amandine Petit, Miss France 2021, who inaugurated this space on Monday.

The well-being space of the Montpellier University Hospital is the fourth Maison des Bonnes Fées in France, after those of the Nancy Cancer Institute, the Léon-Bérard center in Lyon and the Oscar Lambret Center in Lille. “We are planning to open 22,” says Sylvie Tellier, president of the association and of the Miss France committee. We work to come to the aid of women, in situations of distress or exclusion, and in all moments of their lives, in the happiest and most difficult moments. “
