A man with a knife killed seven people and injured seven others over the weekend in China. The tragedy occurred on Sunday morning in the streets of the small town of Kaiyuan, in northeastern Liaoning province. The man was divorced, “paranoid” and “harbored resentment against the company,” state media reported Monday.
On the way between a fruit and vegetable store and a bathhouse, this 62-year-old man from the town “stabbed random passers-by” for many minutes before being arrested by police. “The investigation established that he had lost his son and that his wife had divorced. Asocial and eccentric by nature, he had paranoid thoughts and harbored resentment against society, ”according to CCTV. A further investigation is in progress.
Previous fatal knife attacks
Knife attacks are not uncommon in China, a country where the carrying of a firearm is not permitted for ordinary citizens. They are regularly carried out blindly by people who consider themselves victims of injustice and want revenge on society.
In February 2019, a man who suspected his wife of adultery stabbed eight people to death and injured seven others in a village in northwestern Gansu province. In April 2018, an individual killed nine college students leaving their school in Shaanxi province (north) and injured twelve others. The 28-year-old said he acted out of revenge after being harassed when he was a student at the same college.
