The forest rangers of Tonto (United States) fell this Saturday on a party of more than 5,000 people. This grouping was held illegally, reports CNN.
Local authorities reiterated on Facebook on Tuesday that any gathering of 75 people or more must be subject to a prior permit request. Whether of a commercial nature or not, these events can only take place after issuance of an authorization.
One seriously injured and numerous offenses
Car rodeos were organized as part of the celebration. At the end of the day, multiple thefts and seven accidents were to be deplored. A collision between two quads left a serious injury. The latter had to be evacuated by helicopter because the revelers had blocked the road access.
Police have noted several cases of drunk driving, speeding or reckless driving. The revelers also illegally used fireworks and practiced target shooting. The Tonto National Forest covers nearly 12,000 km². It is the seventh largest forest area in the United States.
Arizona Wildlife Federation director Scott Garlid explained that he usually supports this type of event. “But when you have so many people in one place, it comes to the detriment of nature itself and other people wanting to [en] enjoy, ”he said.
