- From least April, Occitans will be able to invest their savings in regional businesses.
- Everyone can contribute, from 100 euros, to this new device voted this Thursday by the regional council.
This is the precautionary effect caused by the uncertainties of the health crisis. Billions of additional savings accumulate on the accounts of the French In Occitanie, the president of the region,
Carole Delga (PS), wants to “mobilize this savings in the real economy, so that it does not sleep in booklets”. The outgoing announced the vote this Thursday in plenary assembly of the creation of Epargne Occitanie, a participatory device “unprecedented in France” inspired by what is done “in northern Europe or in California”.
The platform will open in April. It will draw on the know-how of WiSeed, the pioneer and regional leader in crowdfunding. Individual investors will be able to contribute from 100 euros, whether they live in the region or not, but the operation will also be open to legal persons, in the form of capital or even donations.
150 companies already interested
At the other end of the chain, companies eligible for this windfall must “have their head office, a secondary establishment in the Occitanie region or a relocation project, and financing needs of 50,000 to 8 million over seven years maximum”.
The selected companies will benefit from the support of the Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a boost from the region in terms of visibility. According to Carole Delga, 150 companies have already applied for this original method of financing, for a “global financial request of 20 million euros”. The elected representative hopes to be able to raise up to 50 million “in a few years”.
