Homemade guargüeros? Here is the irresistible recipe for this dessert of yesteryear

Is it possible to prepare a dessert of yesteryear in a simple way? The Gastronaut makes it come true. This time he gives us the recipe of some delicious homemade guargüeros to continue with the Peruvian candy tradition at home.

Here the tips:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon pisco
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 can of condensed milk
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • Egg white to paste the guargüeros

Preparation:

For the delicacy:

We will place a closed can of condensed milk inside a pot with water that covers. We will put on medium / high heat and once it breaks the boil, we calculate 2 hours of cooking in constant boiling. Make sure that the boiling water always covers the can and, if necessary, add more water as it evaporates. After two hours, remove from the water, let cool completely and then open carefully. Reserve.

For the mass:

Sift the flour together with the baking powder and make a fountain. In the center place the yolks previously mixed with the pisco and the melted butter. With the help of a fork, integrate dry and liquid until we can knead with our hands. If we feel the dough dry, we can add tablespoons of water a few at a time until the dough is completely integrated and does not stick to the counter. Reserve 30 minutes.

For the guargüeros:

Stretch the dough up to 2mm thick and then cut into rectangles according to the size we want the guargüeros to have. Stick the opposite ends of each rectangle with a little egg white and press the ends to give the characteristic shape. Fry in abundant hot oil until golden brown and drain on paper towels. Finally, fill with the delicacy and sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
