Trattoria Italian Bar: the new space for pizza and pasta lovers

Peruvian and Italian food have many interesting meeting points. One of the most important is the love and passion that exists for cooking and how many traditions revolve around the family table and comfort food. With this in mind, Bar Italiano Trattoria emerged, the new restaurant at the DoubleTree by Hilton Lima hotel, located in the crowded district of Miraflores. Thinking of pasta and pizza lovers, Advantage visited the place and we tell you more about our experience.

In the space where the restaurant is located, different formats have been explored, from an international concept to a project where Peruvian flavors were celebrated. With the pandemic, things had to change and they took the opportunity to bet on something different. So they decided on create a space that celebrates Italian flavors, flirts with some Peruvian preparations and tastes, and is welcoming.

“In this restaurant we want everyone to have a place to enjoy delicious food in a comfortable environment. They come from groups of friends or co-workers to couples and families who seek us out to celebrate a special occasion”, says Ingrid Mago, the hotel’s Food and Beverage Manager.

Perfect combination

To begin our experience we taste a Pear Carpaccio, which is nothing more than thin slices of pear topped with Parmesan, arugula, pistachios in lemon vinaigrette and red wine reduction. Despite being wary of those dishes that combine fruit with other ingredients, this preparation completely changed that perception. The union of sweet, salty and umami, as well as contrasting textures, they made this our favorite dishfor which we will return to the restaurant.

We also tried Polenta bruschette, which are small bites with different toppings served on a polenta dough cooked to perfection. We recommend trying the tomato and basil versions, the one with goat cheese and leek confit, and the one with fig, cream cheese and prosciutto.

The restaurant also has a varied cocktail and wine list. We recommend the classic Aperol Spritz and the Hugo cocktail. In this photo, they accompany the Carpaccio di pere.

Other options that can be enjoyed are a classic antipasti with different vegetables, sausages and cheeses. In addition, they have a variety of carpaccio where they explore with ingredients such as salmon, loin and beets.

Afterwards we enjoyed two versions of pizza: the vegetarian and the pepperoni alla diavola. The first was a celebration of the abundance of vegetables available to us, including mushrooms, bell peppers, artichokes, avocados, and red cabbage. Although surprising, the hot avocado adds creaminess to each bite and the final touch is delivered by the olive tapenade that accompanies it. The second pizza was a tribute to the classic pepperoni pizza, but giving it a different touch with peperoncino, the key ingredient for spice in Italian cuisine.

Bar Italiano Trattoria has 14 types of pizza where they present from the most traditional and friendly flavors with all kinds of diners, to the most gourmet and curious combinations.

But, as we know, an Italian feast would not be complete without other dishes such as slow-cooked pastas or stews. We decided on a classic: Carbonara spaghetti, a preparation based on bacon, yolks, Parmesan cheese and black pepper. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the sauce was smooth, with just the right amount of salt. The taste of the bacon was amazing and the touch of pepper gave each bite a punch.

Another of our favorites was the Gnocchi Quattro Formaggi. Unlike other places, here we were presented with pasta prepared with sweet potatoes instead of potatoes, which gave it a very subtle sweet touch. This was appreciated because it helped balance the strength of the cheese sauce, which includes blue cheese, Parmesan, gouda, and edam.

When it comes to desserts, the Duomo di cioccolato It is an experience both for the taste and for the eyes. This sweet temptation consists of a truffled chocolate mousse with vanilla ice cream, topped by a chocolate dome that melts thanks to a caramel sauce that is poured on top. If you prefer something different, but just as delicious, go for the Gelato Briochewhich is a sweet and soft bread stuffed with chocolate and pistachio ice cream with the perfect texture and flavor.
