World pop corn day: canchita, crispetas and all the names it has by country

The consumption of the canchita or pop corn has spread throughout the world due to its close relationship with the cinema, but this appetizer has its beginnings in Pre-Columbian America. Over the years and countries, it has adopted different names, some more peculiar than others. Here we tell you some of the names that you should not miss:

In Peru it is known as cancha or canchita, in Spain as popcorn, in the United States and several countries as pop corn. In Argentina it is better known as pochoclo while in Bolivia as pipoca, as in Brazil.

In Chile they are little goats and in Colombia and Mexico crispetas, in Cuba and in Ecuador Canguil. In El Salvador and Puerto Rico they have a name very similar to Cuba’s: corn rosettes. In Guatemala it is poporopo and in Paraguay, pororó. Millo in Panama and cocaleca in the Dominican Republic. In Uruguay it is pop and in Venezuela, cotufas.
