Omar, also known as the coffee maker for your project in instagram, arrived for things in life to the world of coffee. He studied International Business and did an internship at an entity of the Ministry of Agriculture, where he specialized in fairs and events.
“I stumbled upon a coffee fair and it changed my life forever. I met incredible stories and people, but I also saw a sad reality: coffee producers did not drink their own product”tells from his local accompanied by Cafesazo, his pet and faithful companion.
From that experience, he realized that in different spaces soluble coffee was drunk or that coffee was not well known to work. “People thought that coffee had to be bitter and black and it is not like that, through different methods you can explore an amazing world of flavors and aromas, that is what we also want to show here”Omar explains.
He began by creating content on networks, such as memes and interviews with producers, taking advantage of the trips he had to make for his work. Little by little, she made a name for herself in the coffee world and discovered more interesting projects.
“This world catches you. When you try a good coffee with all the potential it has, you will always want to try another and that’s what happened to me. Over time I understood that what had been a hobby became a mission “he says solemnly without losing the smile that characterizes him.
Times of change
Everything seemed to be running its course until the arrival of the pandemic, which made him rethink some decisions. “I had not considered having a cafeteria because I felt that it tied me to Lima and I wanted to continue traveling and seeing farms, but with the pandemic I had the time to consider it and together with my girlfriend Antonella we decided to start this project”, Explain. Precisely, this space celebrates one year of creation.
They started with a small bar outside a friend’s place that sold food. Over time, they decided that it was time to open their own store and among so much searching they found the space where they are today. It is located half a block from the bustling Avenida Brasil, but it is a small oasis of calm, reggae music and a little smell of coffee that attracts different diners.
Here you can find producers enjoying a good cup of coffee and talking about the different types, students who are encouraged to try coffee for the first time, and parents who, after dropping off their children at school, are encouraged to recharge their batteries.
Everyone is welcomed by an attentive team, eager to reveal the world behind a cup of coffee and ready to recommend any of their different creations with curious names.
A simple letter with heart
The sudaka, the chaploso and the hulkcito are some of the names that we can find on the Barra Cafetera menu. They are an attempt to arouse curiosity in the diner and show the fresh and fun personality of both Omar and the space he runs.
A fact to be rescued is that, as part of its work to show the coffee culture, every week the bar shows coffees of different origins, giving space to producers from all over the country.
They have more than 34 coffee drinks, cold and hot, with milk, with juices and some with spirits such as pisco. For example, the sudaka is the classic espresso diluted in ice water, perfect for this heat. We also tried the hulkcito, which with its green color can shock many, but with its flavor even more. It is a preparation of coffee with ginger ale and mint liqueur, a refreshing combination that we did not know we needed, but it won us over.
They have the well-known extraction methods such as the French press, tornado method, V60 and Chemex, among others. Omar told us that we could not stop trying the coffee prepared with the Mupeco, the first 100% Peruvian extraction method.
If it is about accompanying the experience with food, they have reduced options: three sweets and three salty ones. “What we try to do here is arouse curiosity about coffee, we are a bar that focuses on that product and there are those who combine both, but we choose to focus on drinks”Explain.
coffee bar It is a meeting space that is worth visiting and exploring. From the hand of Omar and his team, you can discover curious methods, unexpected combinations, incredible flavors and stories that deserve to be remembered.
