Two restaurants and a Peruvian chef will compete at the prestigious James Beard Awards in the United States

Peruvian gastronomy continues to receive recognition outside its borders and in the list of nominees for the James Beard Awards they stand out in several categories.

These awards, organized since 1990, bear the name and are part of the foundation in honor of James Beard, an American chef considered as a precursor to the dissemination of gastronomy on television in the northern country.

The list of nominees for the awards in its 2023 edition was revealed on Friday, March 31, and was replicated by major international gastronomic media such as Eater, Bon Apétit, and other media such as CNN and “The Washington Post.”

There are two Peruvian restaurants and a chef that appear on the list that has 23 categories.

The most important are Best Restaurant and Best Chef, in which the first two Peruvians appear.

In the ‘Outstanding Restaurant’ (Best Restaurant) category, the Peruvian Coracora (from West Hartford, Connecticut) competes. This space, according to its official website, opened in 2011 and belongs to the couple that make up Héctor Ludeña and Luisa Jiménez. Causa, by chef Carlos Delgado, offers dishes such as corn pancakes, patacones, lomo saltado, arroz con erizo a la chiclayana (with chicha de jora) and also has Amazonian food options.

Finally, in the ‘Outstanding Chef’ category (Best Chef), Erik Ramírez, from the Llama Inn restaurant in Brooklyn, New York, was nominated.
