How to organize with the children at home during the quarantine?

The coronavirus quarantine has forced many parents to access telework, in this way, by spending more time with their children, it is necessary to establish a dynamic with them while they carry out their work. Patience and creativity will be key in this task.

“The first thing is to organize a schedule for the whole family and not just for our sons or daughters. Thus, we are teaching them by example. This schedule should include activities from the time we get up to the time we need to go to bed, with some flexibility since we are all learning to work this way. After the first days of application, a joint review is recommended to see if it is useful for everyone “, says Jessyca Sampe, Director of Projects at Innova Schools

For the schedule to be fulfilled and work we must build basic rules of coexistence that we can make as a family and have to be understood by all. “We must respect the hours to use the computer, the children do not interrupt when their parents are working, take responsibility for the housework they have assigned and respect the hours dedicated to free time”, explains Sampe, and at the same time, gives us these tips to organize ourselves at home with the children.

1. Perform school homework and educational activities. Many educational centers have sent students to do their homework from home, this with the aim that through learning they continue to stimulate their brain and reinforce topics covered in class.

2. Give him responsibilities at home. Depending on their age, they can help around the house with tasks as simple as sweeping, sorting clothes or toys, cleaning, and even cooking. It is a good time, also to take the time to choose what is useful to us, what we can give away and we are going to discard it.

3. Do fun and recreational activities: There are several alternatives such as digital activities or without a screen that you can do as a family. For example, ludo. Look for a model on the Internet and do it in a homemade way, developing our creativity and seeing the result of our creation.

4. Avoid abusing television and electronic devices: A schedule will allow you to regulate the hours of use of the Internet and the computer or other electronic devices such as video games. The most important thing is to define the type of TV or computer programs and decide together what types of programs they can watch.

For example, virtual visits to museums, live storytelling activities, virtual live concerts, learning crafts, etc. There are also interactive or live videos or that are played with the group of partners online.

Finally, don’t forget to take advantage of this time to connect with your family and identify those things that work for us and those that don’t.
