This ship moves thanks to the exercise of its passengers

Riding a bike is one of the favorite activities of people to keep fit or to get around the city. Could all that energy put into training move something as big as a boat?

The designer Carlo Ratti in association with the Terreform ONE group, the URBEM institute and the Technogym exercise equipment brand, have created the Navigator Gym in Paris. It’s about a boat with transparent walls equipped with 45 bikes where passengers pedal to make it move across the river Seine.

The idea behind this project is to give people the opportunity to exercise and enjoy the city at the same time. Everyone can participate as the navigator gym crosses the city and anyone can go up in the corresponding ports.

The augmented reality screens will be installed on the glass walls where the amount of energy generated, the exercise data and the conditions of the Seine River will be projected in real time, captured by special sensors.

The boat 20 meters long not only serves as a walking gym. It can also be rented for events and meetings on board and powered using the power reserve generated by exercise or thanks to electric drives.
