Three new and refreshing bars in Miraflores to visit this summer | VIDEO

Summer officially arrived in Lima and Advantage went out to tour three new bars in Miraflores that bring us many surprises. Each one with a well-thought-out concept, extremely eye-catching and with varied and dynamic cards. These are María Mezcal, Casa Jaguar and Hidden Bar, three places whose cocktails New and seasonal flavors will powerfully refresh the hot Lima summer.

Something important to highlight is that all three are ventilated spaces, open in the afternoons and serve snacks or snacks, essential to accompany cocktails. Between the diversity of drinks, music and company, having a good time is guaranteed.

1. María Mezcal, to drink with kisses

With a wide and exquisite menu of artisan mezcals brought especially from Mexico, María Mezcal is proud to be the first mezcalería in the country. What is mezcal and how is it different from popular tequila? “Mezcal is usually drunk in a very different way from tequila. Its elaboration process is also different “, Alexander Holender, manager of Bar and Experience of the TOE Group, tells us” Mezcal must necessarily be 100% maguey, one of the more than 20 different species can be used. At the time of consumption, people are used to drinking tequila in a faster or party way, as a ‘shot’; however, with mezcal there is mysticism, romanticism, it is drunk with kisses, little by little ”. In a mezcal jícara, which is a small artisanal vessel, they reach up to 6 sips of the distillate. And drinking it like that, slowly, is part of the magic.

In María Mezcal we want to show the popular Mexican culture, street, party, in a close way, and what better way to achieve it than through its music, food and drinks. With all the influence of the famous artist Thalía and her famous soap operas, María Mezcal’s cocktails are named María Mercedes, María la del Barrio, Marimar, which gave rise to the flagship cocktail of the place, María Mezcal.

María Mezcal's bartender, Iván Piérola, prepared us the signature cocktail of the house that bears the same name. It contains tamarind syrup, bitter, tequila, mezcal, sparkling water, crushed ice and is decorated with edible flowers, spearmint or mint. (Photos: Britanie Arroyo)

You will also find the well-known fresh waters of Jamaica, horchata and tamarind, as well as their versions with tequila, known as Aguas Locas, and juicy tacos very Mexican-style such as tacos al pastor, carnitas, cochinita pibil, barbecue and shrimp enchilados. These, for example, are prawns marinated in chile de arbol, they are sautéed, they go on a corn tortilla, a green sauce of avocado, jalapeño and pico de gallo, it is accompanied with lemon and a slightly spicy green tomato sauce. Delicious

The rancheras put the touch of the night and the decoration of the Santa Muerte at the top of the bar, the photo of Ramón Valdés hanging on their wall and the charro hats, will take them briefly –and without getting on a plane– to beloved Mexico.

2. Casa Jaguar, the bartender’s lair

Casa Jaguar is defined not as a bar but as a place where they serve cocktails. It is a ‘rooftop’ with a quiet and intimate atmosphere to enjoy its specialties such as Nugroni Ahumado (served inside a smoky box, a presentation that the public enjoys a lot at night), Felina, Tropical Colada, Boho Chic and many more.

Luis Daniel Gonzales, founder and bartender at Casa Jaguar, tells us that the name of the place was born because the bartenders identify with this extremely astute nocturnal feline.

What are we going to find at Casa Jaguar? “Knowledge, culture and cocktails that change every day or weekly, depends on the fruits that are coming out. We always go to the market and if we find an interesting fruit we bring it and process it, make different syrups, etc. ”, Gonzales tells us.

3. Hidden Bar, the mysterious passage

“Clearly we are not in a visible place, so the name started from there,” says Gerson Arteaga, co-owner of Hidden Bar about the origin of the name. Hidden, in English, means ‘hidden’. “We are a bar that is going to be mysterious and everything is being worked on so that in the menu there are secret ingredients that will be discovered”.

Hidden Bar is located in the Mártir José Olaya passage in Miraflores, it has an industrial style with copper-colored iron and cement distributed in an elegant way and inspired by the different bars of the world visited by its owners. The bar is also impressive, an image that improves with the lighting at dusk. Also, the artistic murals are integrated into the decoration of the space.

A refreshing Gerson's Tonic, the surprising Zambo (it has a bubble on it) and the fun Match on Tinder, just three of Hidden Bar's colorful and extensive menu. (Photos: Britanie Arroyo)

The cocktail menu has been changing every week and the variety is quite wide. You must try Match on Tinder, Zambo or Gerson’s Tonic. Other options are Welcome to Hidden, Bitter and Sexy, We Are Not “Secret Garden”, Over The Horizon and more. To accompany the cocktails, you can order taglios of pepperoni, cheese, mushrooms or pineapple and enjoy this outdoor terrace with an enviable musical selection.
