Bruno Bernard had to face the facts on Tuesday. The president of the metropolis of Lyon and Sytral has indeed just communicated on his Twitter account the results of the consultation around “the strong cable transport line between Francheville and Lyon”. And this consultation, carried out from November 15 to February 15, “in order to offer residents public transport adapted to the topography of this territory”, leads to the abandonment of this controversial cable car project between Francheville and Lyon, which was carried by the environmentalist executive of the metropolis.
This cable car, which was also to pass through the municipality of Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, aroused strong criticism in the west of Lyon as soon as it was announced by Sytral, in December 2020. “This consultation [plus de 6.000 contributions] has largely mobilized the inhabitants of the territories concerned, Bruno Bernard act on Tuesday. There is strong opposition from citizens who have expressed their views on this new mode of transport. The conditions are therefore not met to carry out this project. »
“Sytral has already received several associations to listen to their proposals to improve the existing network”, continues the elected EELV, aware of the “real need for mobility” in the west of Lyon. After 18 months of procrastination, the inhabitants simply know that the cable car will not be the solution to this relentless observation.
