MEPs vote to increase the reception capacity in administrative detention centers

The amendment by deputy LR Eric Ciotti was adopted on Wednesday in committee, during the examination of the programming bill of the Ministry of the Interior.

“I consider today, given the seriousness of the situation (…) that the only effective device to increase the rate of execution of the obligation to leave French territory (OQTF) is placement in an administrative detention center” (CRA ), defended the framework of the LR party.

This subject has occupied the public debate since the brutal murder in mid-October in Paris of a 12-year-old teenager, Lola, by an Algerian in an irregular situation, under the influence of an OQTF.

“I am told that there are actually 1,300 operational places. This is very largely insufficient compared to the 120,000 OQTF “(average of the obligations to leave French territory pronounced each year, editor’s note), noted Eric Ciotti.

“We are going to create 500 more in the coming months. We will be around 1,700 from next March, ”he said, saying he was in favor of the amendment by deputy LR to increase this figure to 3,000 by 2027. LFI deputies opposed in vain to the amendment. The Minister of the Interior promised that he would be in favor of an amendment proposing to exclude children and minors from these centers, excluding Mayotte.
